Most students know that exercise and good nutrition are important for good health, but they often underestimate the impact these factors have on mood, energy, focus and memory. Introducing students to physical activity not only provides the noted health and mental benefits, but also exposes them to new and exciting social interactions, another critical component of overall well-being. The Patti and Allan Herbert Wellness Center offers recreational sports, fitness, and wellness education programs to help students achieve their personal goals.
Despite the benefits of physical activity, students often perceive numerous obstacles that deter them from exercising and eating well. Such obstacles often include lack of time, insufficient fitness and nutrition knowledge or just lack of awareness. CHAMP at the Patti and Allan Herbert Wellness Center is a free program for students designed to eliminate these obstacles and help students identify what programs, classes and services are right for them. CHAMP provides individualized recommendations and includes multiple incentives to motivate students to continue.
